Corrected paragraph of PC 1
Studying at
the Department of Translation can be very challenging. One of the reasons for
this is that you choose two foreign languages at the beginning of the semester.
Both languages require much concentration and commitment. The language teachers
expect a very high level right from the beginning, especially in English.
Learning vocabulary, grammar and facts about Irish and American culture are the
most important parts of the language course in the first year. Another challenge
are the further lectures that you should attend in order to take important
notes. They cover different topics such as culture, communication, syntax and
semantics. Their aim is to give you an overview on what it looks like being an
interpreter or a translator. As a student you also have to manage the time on
your own and you have to get used to the habit of showing self-responsibility.
At university nobody tells you exactly which course you have to take or which
lecture you should attend. Being well-organised helps yourself to make your
life easier. Summing up, self organization and motivation are vital for
studying at this department and I am sure it is worth accepting the challenge.
This is the corrected version of my paragraph for PC 1. I received a positve grade, but I nearly failed. The problem was that I missed the task, it means that I had concentrated on facts which had not been requested for the writing part. When I wrote the corrected version, I always checked my paragraph with the topic sentence, to make sure that my arguments and main points are connected with the topic sentence. It took me some time, but in my opinion, I have managed to write a much better version.
